It is important to us that we continue to attract highly qualified GPs to our area. We live in a beautiful part of the country and have excellent general practices and really want to attract the best candidates possible to work with us to continue to improve the services we provide to our population.
The Career Start scheme has been successfully running since 2015. We invite applicants to apply from across the UK, and we have salaried GP posts available, which will be hosted within individual practices across our CCG area. The scheme runs for 2 years with the hope GP’s will continue into permanent GP roles in County Durham.
For the first two years, the CCG will part fund the posts to enable each GP to be released from practice to focus on their clinical and personal development each week. GPs will also be supported to attend additional educational activities and receive mentorship.
Posts have been established that work jointly with the Public Health Department in Durham County Council and our local Foundation Trusts. These posts have a strong development component in general practice, public health, secondary care and hospital specialties.
If you would like to find out more about our GP Career Start Scheme please contact Dr Jonathan Smith, jonathansmith.ddes@nhs.net or cdccg.primarycare@nhs.net where we would be more than happy to provide you with more information or to arrange for us to have a conversation with you about the opportunities available.
